Omanthai to Kankesanthurai Railway track laying functions has been scheduled to start on 15^th January 2012 at Jaffna Central Railway Station. The Indian Foreign Minister Mr. S.M Krishna and Srilankan Ministers are expected to inaugurate the track laying ceremony on 15^th January 2012.

Once the track laying completes from the Omanthai to Kankesanthurai will be lunches the rail service from Colombo to Jaffna and from Jaffna to other Parts of country.
