Hambantota Port Project Attracts US$ 2 Billion Investment

Dr. Priyath B. Wickrama made a key note in AAT Srilanka Conference 2012; As Srilanka becomes more Important Maritime and Logistic center in the Asian Region with Direct links between more busy ports around the world.

The Hambantota Port Free Zone has attracted by 17 Entrepreneurs with massive investments to the turn of US$ 2 Billion. Under the first agreement to establish a sugar refinery with the investment of US$ 220 Million was signed.

In addition to above investment few vehicle assembling factories, including Audi and a bus assembling factory will be established just outside the Hambantota Port. The Colombo Port Expansion project is in progress and expected to make first 2 terminals in third quarter of 2013 in addition to Port City in Colombo.

Similar the Srilanka port Authority is looking forward heavy investment from entrepreneurs in the Free Zone in Trincomalee and in Proposed Port City as well.
