The Colombo – Katunayake Expressway is scheduled to be completed by mid year. Meanwhile, the first 11 kilometer section of the Outer Circular expressway (OCH) from Kottawa to Kaduwela is expected to be completed by May 2013.
Work of the 8.9 kilometer section under the second stage of the OCH from Kaduwela to Kadawatha which began in January 2012 is expected to be completed by January 2015. Work on the third stage from Kadawatha to Kerawalapitiya is in progress now.
The Outer Circular Highway will be connect to the Colombo – Katunayake Expressway at Kerawalapitiya while connecting the Colombo -Kandy Expressway at Kadawatha.
In addition, work on the Colombo – Kandy Expressway has already commenced. The Southern Expressway will be connected to the Colombo – Kandy Expressway and Colombo -Katunayake Airport Expressway that are currently under construction via the Colombo Outer Circular Highway.
This will reduce traffic congestion in the city and provide faster access to outskirts.
