Diploma in Human Right Programme in Colombo, Sri Lanka

The Institute of Human Rights has been conducting the diploma programme in Human Rights for the past 15 years in English, Sinhala and Tamil. This programme delivers an understanding of Human Rights, in a local and international context.

This is an interactive course that explores the concept of Human Rights, discusses the ‘rights’ dimension of global and local events and trends, and builds a community of individuals to participate in making a change.

The programme is delivered by a panel of Human Rights academics, activists and professionals working with government, non-governmental and academic institutions.

The course duration is eight months and is structured towards raising awareness on concepts of Human Rights, the mechanisms in place, issues relating to rights of vulnerable groups of persons and contextual issues relating to Human Rights.

The aim of the course is firstly, the facilitation of attitudes of tolerance and understanding and secondly the empowering of civil society.

90% of the road Networks rebuilt in Northern and Eastern Province of Sri Lanka

The Port and Highway Ministry announces that the 90% of the road networks including highways in North and eastern provinces had completed since the end of war.

The Government allocated USD 1,350 Million for infrastructure Development, Railway, Electricity, highway and water supplies developments projects in Northern and Eastern Province.

The fund allocations are developing the national level interest and improve the lifestyle of whole srilankan as one. This would expect to improve many for development proposals and projects to be carried out to lead the country.

Sri Lanka receiving Vocational training on nuclear scientists in Russia

The New Minister of Technology, Research and Atomic Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka meets the delegations from Russia to create a legal basis for bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and the Russian Federation on peaceful applications of nuclear technology.

It was agreed that a Memorandum of Understanding would be signed between Sri Lanka and the Russian Federation in the near future which would facilitate vocational training for Sri Lankan nuclear scientists in Russia and also managing nuclear and radiation safety issues and the development of nuclear technology infrastructure in Sri Lanka.

Northern Province Fisheries harvest increasing continuously

The Northern Province of Srilanka recorded 43% of total fish harvest  in 30 years ago, which is reduced upto 7% in last 30 years due to war and restrictions on fishing.

After the ends of war, the fishing harvests gradually increasing 7% t 18% for last seven month time. The government of Srilanka spend Rs. 1,800 Million on fisheries investment in Northern Province in order to improve fish harvest.

Srilanka do have great opportunity for Fish self sufficiency and export markets with enough fishery resources available.

New 13 New Hi-Tech Power Sets for Srilankan Railway to Improve Performance

The Srilanka Government taken steps to imports 13 new hi-tech power sets from China to use Railway needs, the Power Set is proposed to use on the Podi Menike train beginning March 2013.

The new Power Sets imports at a cost of USD 101 million credit agreements in settle in 15 years time.

Meanwhile, of the 13 power sets, two power sets are super luxury trains imported from China to promote tourism in the country.

A special schedule will be prepared for the luxury class train service covering all the main railway tracks in the island, he said.

Australian scholarships are Open Now – Till 30th April 2013

The Applications are now open for the 2014 Australia Scholarship provided under AusAID of the Australian government’s overseas aid programme. the scholarships are  offers to 2,300 scholarships over 90 countries around the world to study in Australian institutions in 2014.

The best students will be selected on the basis of demonstrated leadership qualities, academic achievement and their potential to impact development.

In 2012, 30 scholarships were given to Sri Lankan participants to study in Australia in 2013. The scholarships are awards for future leaders the chance to strengthen their knowledge and leadership skills, with the goal of contributing to the development in their home country.

Colombo Private Lands will not be acquired arbitrarily

The Chief government Whip Minister Dinesh Gunawardena stated that lands in Colombo city will not be acquired arbitrarily for the Colombo City Development Project. He further said that the plan designed for development purposes as everybody knows and lands which come under this project only, will be acquired.

The Colombo City development is mandatory to develop the tourism in Srilanka and expand the hotels and support services to attract more tourist into srilanka.

Srilanka First Cable Car Project Started at Nuwara Elia; would be ready by early December 2013

Sri Lanka’s first cable car project is expected to be ready by early December 2013. MLM Associates (Pvt) Ltd invested Rs 700 million for this project as an initial stage. The cable car network would be installed from Lake Gregory to Single Tree Mountain of 2 Km approximately.

The chosen cable cars would be dual powered; solar and wind and each cabin would have the capacity for 15 persons. And it is also have a glass bottomed cable car with additional luxuries to be used for high end personalities. The company is also setting up a new restaurant at Single Tree Mountain to add values to the tourist to enjoy their meals and snacks with natural environment of srilanka.

A cable car trips will be charge around Rs. 1,000.00 and expect to have at least 500,000 tourists per year.

And the project will be extend to 7.5 Km Cable car project with  20 Rooms luxury Hotels and coffee shops, gift shops and kids play area with parks.
