Coconut growing project in Urban areas ( Maharagama Area)

The Coconut Development and Janatha Estate Development Ministry has launched a special program to grow coconut in urban areas. The aim is for people living in urban areas to obtain coconut for day to day consumption.

The first phase of the program commenced at Sri Jayawardhanapura Kotte and second phase commenced at Maharagama.

According to the program, the Coconut Cultivation Board will distribute two CRIC 65 coconut saplings to each home in the urban areas. They will be able to get the harvest within three and half I years. Minister of Coconut Development and Janatha Estate Development distributed 2,000 coconut saplings among 1,000 families in the ‘ Maharagama Municipal Council area.
