Investment Promotion Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene told Parliament that there was no plan to bring down foreign workers to fill the vacancies in garment factories of the country.

The minister said there are about 15,000 vacancies in the apparel industry. They would be filled from the local labour, he said.

The minister said there are 371 factories related to the apparel industry. He said the removal of GSP+ facility has not affected the industry as the owners of factories have adjusted to continue their business.

The vacancies were created by the changes in the labour market
