Principles of Western Province schools have been unstructured to take steps to ensure their students to obtain better results in the G.C.E (O/L) Examination. It has been projection that North Western, Uva and Sabaragamuwa may have better results than a western province.

The Western Province Acting Education Director Wimal Gunaratne, said schools had been told to have additional classes of two and half hours for O/L students from 6.30 to 7.30 in the morning and from 1.30 pm to 3.00 pm. The authority has meet principles to discuss ways of improving performance while the schools would have to submit reports of anticipated results.

And principals instructed to take steps to ensure no child skips classes (without valid reasons) and other children are not allowed to walk past O/L classes

My Opinion

Students could full concentrate on their subject only on 40 to 45 Minutes for an subject, and this extension of school time from 6.30 to 7.30 in the morning and from 1.30 pm to 3.00 pm; will lead to students to be at school from 6.30 Am to 3.00 Pm.

It would impact to students mentally, it may harm to the result in overall, and the Education Ministry has to taken steps to benchmark the overseas educational systems and need to adopt the possible option to improve the student result in their G.C.E (O/L) Examination.

The extensions of school hours will be frustration to students rather obtain a best result.
