Alexander the Great

This is a Tamil book publish by Kizhakku. This is my 3rd book of NHM’s. It’s a great time to writing a book review of “Maha Alexander”. Total book is contains of 165 pages with the additional reference of their author [R.Muthukumar].which clearly separated by 14 chapters.

I intentionally purchase this book because the author mentions in this front cover ‘the Alexander’s war techniques are can’t even compare with administration or business institutes strategies”.

I like to read about the war and the techniques they used in war [same as in the business too]. So I thought it should be satisfied me in both need.

When I start reading the 1st chapter, I like the follow of the author’s continuations. And some places I highlighted with highlighter too. Because those understand me too about those are using war techniques and same for business too.

Here by I go through by my highlighted area,

  • In page no 11 he says “even if it is the fort or in the war, signals are important to the soldiers” we have to understand this into real life in business and the war too. Sometimes we don’t have time to explain what we think. so signals are important.
  • In page no 24 he says, “Don’t give-up your victory for anyone. If you avoid the victory, than victory will avoid you” in business and real life it’s true because when we give up it for a fun. It will lead us to bigger loose in future, so use the opportunity and win the battle every times.
  • In page no 89 he says about the diversification of the duties to the soldiers. And how the soldiers should act and he [Alexander] will give a limited freedom to the certain levels. This is a good technique to handle soldiers.
  • In page no 91 he says “importance of information”. For a business we should understand the necessary of information and the efficient use of that information. It’s same as in the war which Alexander uses as it.
  • In the same page he says about understand the enemy’s weak points and the enemy’s tactics too, than only we can break their strength and capture their spaces. When we attack their weakest point the enemy will losing the confident and strengths.
  • In page no 103 he says “Alexander is not a leader who order and beside in battle, he is the first person who enter the battle and order others how to attack the enemy”.
  • In page no 150 he says identified the correct person and provide the responsibility to them. Even if s/he was work for others [competitor] in this case “he handover the kingdom back to the earlier king [who fight with him (Purushothamar)] to manage behalf of him”, which is good example of Alexander’s duty diversifications.

As per my understanding, this book it’s a great pleasure to read. I have learned lot but I share here less than 5%. If you like to gain much you better buy this book and read, which may give you a lot of learning’s.

When I read this book I like to learn more about the Darius III and purushothamar. Especially Darius is a personality who can gather a more soldier’s in short time [who escape so many times from Alexander and Get back with much soldiers fight with him], so in my perspective he is also a great leader [may be].

And Purushothamar is another great king who wondered by Alexander as well. Specially I like to know about his War techniques and his Usage of their soldiers [in 13th chapther Muthukumar explain it well, but if he explain feather in another book will be a good to us].

So I am expecting another 2 books in future by R.Muthukumar

In over all the Maha Alexander will be a good investment to myself.

Its Indian Rupees 80.00 or srilankan Rupees of 280.00.

Basic Chess

Chess is played in squares board with 8 rows and 8 columns, making 64 squares. There is always two players: one black and one weight. It’s initiated by the Indian kings. Earlier called as “sathurangam”. Mostly this game is played by king and top level people in kingdom. The percent game is emerged in 15th century by Europe.

Each player holding 16 pieces such as,

One king,

One queen,

Two rooks,

Two knights,

Two bishops,

And eight pawns.

The ultimate objective of this game is checkmate the opposition’s king, when the king faces immediate attack its call Check on the next move they should remove or defend from the attack.

The board is always arranging as the image describe. Both queens start on squares of their own color and king start on the opposite color.

The Pawns

The pawn is the weakest piece in this games and each player gets eight pawns. A pawn can move only one square straight forward, but the first move it can move two square forward. Some times pawns unable to move if any other pawns blocked [its can be either friendly or enemy].

The pawns can move diagonally if square occupied by enemy’s pawns.

The knight

The night mostly calls as horse. Each player get 2 knights.

Its can move one square horizontally or vertically and then one square diagonally from its original position. And the knight can jump over another piece either friend or enemy.

The Bishop

The bishops are the 3rd powered pieces in the game.

Each player gets two bishops. The bishops can move as far as its diagonal line. But bishop can’t jump over anther piece. And especially each bishop spends his whole life in the same color as it belongs.

The Rook

The rook is a 2ed powered pieces in the game and it look like a tower. Each player will get 2 rooks.

Rooks also move like bishop but rooks move in a straight vertical or horizontal. As same as bishop it can’t jump over the pieces. And it should stop before friendly pieces or square of enemy’s captured.

The Queen

The queen is a strongest piece in the game. And each player gets one queen. The queen can move like bishop and rook combined [in horizontal or vertical or diagonal]. And queen also can’t jump over another piece.

The King

The king is most important piece in the game. And each player gets one king.

King doesn’t have power like Queen, Bishop or Rook. But king is determining the final result of game. King can move one square in any direction.

Check

If a player manages to threaten other players king will capture is call check. Its mean in next move enemy’s king will be capture. Once the check position is announce the enemy player should take immediate action to safe their king.

3 solutions are to do, if check announced.

1.      Moving king to safe square,

2.      Capturing the threating piece,

3.      Getting friendly 3rd piece in to threating piece’s way.

Checkmate

If one player manages to check other’s king. And the enemy’s king can’t be moveable than its call checkmate [end of the game].

The primary objective the chess game is to checkmate. But capturing pieces is only for made easy to capture enemy’s king.

Stalemate

This position is where the player is not made check but the other player can’t move without exposing the king capture. So game comes to end as tie.

Basic Rules

Pawn Promotion

If the pawn ends up to enemy’s side, the pawn can promote as Knight, Bishop, Rook or Queen. In most of the time everyone promote as queen.

Castling

The castling is used to safe the king in beginning. Its follow some rules,

1.      Square between king and rook is empty,

2.      King or rook not move yet,

3.      No enemy pieces threating to king.

Castle can carryout by moving king towards to the rook. Than rook also move other side of king by one square. This is a best defensive position to king.

En Passant

This is rule mostly not use. Because it’s applicable only if following situation arise only,

When other player moves to pawn 2 square forward [ 1st move], the passes over a square where the enemy pawn could cut if its move one square forward. Than that pawn can capture by moving pawn by diagonally.

Some player is not use this because its no sense behind it.

அம்பானி பல நாட்கள் தேடிய தேடல், கைவசம் கிடைத்த வாய்ப்பை விடுவதற்கு நான் தயாராக இருக்கவில்லை. ஒரு தனி வர்த்தகம் ஆரம்பிப்பதே என் முதல் இலக்கு. அதற்கான தயார்படுத்தல்களில் அம்பானியைப்  பற்றி அறிவதும்,  அவர்களது வழிமுறைகளை அறிவதும் ஓர் கல்வியே.

என் மேல் அன்பு கொண்ட பலர் என்னிடம் கேட்ட பல கேள்விகளில் என்னைச் சிந்திக்க வைத்த கேள்வி இது.

இந்தக் கேள்வியை என்னிடம் கேட்கும் போது அவர்கள் என்மீது  ஓர்வகை அன்பு வைத்ததை என்னால் உணர முடிந்தது. ஆனால் இந்த அன்பு என்னை வேறுவிதமாகவும் சிந்திக்க வைத்தது. இது யாரையும் புண்படுத்துவதற்காக எழுதப்படவில்லை என்பதை சகலருக்கும் தெரிவிக்கிறேன் .

இங்கு இருந்து அங்கு போய் உழைப்பதை விட இங்கு இருந்து, இங்கு உழைப்பது மேல். நான் கண்ட பல மேதாவிகள்  எனக்குக் கூறியது இங்கு இனப்பிரச்சனை, மொழிப்பிரச்சனை. ஆனால் அவர்கள் அங்கு சென்று அந்த நாட்டு மொழியைக் கற்பதை விட இங்கு இருந்து நம் சகோதர மொழியைக் கற்று சிறப்படைவதே மேல். இதை நான் இங்கு சொன்னால் எம்மவர்களுக்கு நான் விரோதி ஆகிறேன்

இது மட்டும் இல்லாமல் இங்கு இருந்த நோஞ்சான்கள் அங்கு சென்றதும் வீரன் ஆகும் கதைகள் ஏராளம். இந்த வீரன்கள் அங்குள்ள அப்பாவிகளுடன் சண்டை போட்டு மீண்டும் இங்கு வந்த கதைகளும் ஏராளம். இதை விட இங்கு இருந்து எமக்கு ஏற்ற தொழிலைச் செய்யலாம் எமது தாய் நாட்டில்.

இதை விட பெரும் கொடுமை படிக்கச் சென்ற பண்டிதர்கள் படிக்காமல் பாவைகளுடன் சென்றதும் உண்டு. இப்பேர்பட்டவர்களை நம்பி இங்கிருந்து பெற்றோர்கள் பணம் அனுப்பும் படலம் வேறு நடக்கும்.

Humanity Of A Push Cart Man

This day started with hearing sad unusual news and actions. When I woke up, my father told me, as one of our relative died from throat cancer on the way to Colombo General Hospital, at Puttalm. The second bad news was, one of my friedn called and informed that one  of my friend met an accident day before yesterday and got admitted to hospital, Unfortunately I heard this news also after two days on this day.

I got ready to work, though I woke up late, I rushed myself  and got ready to go work. I left to the bus halt at about 7.30 am to go office.

When I reached the bus halt, the bus I should take was just passed in-front of me. I scolded my self and waited until the next bus come.

While I waited there, I saw a school boy was looking at both sides to cross the road. After saw this I looked at the right side from where bus come. I did not thought of helping the small boy to cross over the road.

At the same time a push-cart man passed by the place where I stood. Who collect used papers and used bottles to sell and he carry on with his life. When the push cart man gone near to the school boy he asked the small boy “Whether he wants to cross the road?”. As the small boy said “Yes” he stopped his pushcart and placed a stone on the wheeels of push cart(to make it not to move). He hold the school boy’s hand and took him to the other side of the road and he came back to this side, where his pushcart was there, and he was walking on his way.

When I saw that an uneducated push cart man helping the child to cross the road and me, a cost accountant did not think of helping the child. I was thinking to myself until I reach office, what is the difference between me and that man who helped the child.finally endup with the answer that he was a person with much more ‘humanity’ comparing to me and i felt ashamed of being like hat.

Small business in srilanka

When we think about small businesses in Sri Lanka, our second thought would be these :

  • Initial investment for business
  • Rising working capitals for the business
  • Location, rent and the rate
  • Other related expenses.

But, there are so many businesses those are running with huge profits without much problems.

For example,

1] Selling kingcoconut

When I mention selling king coconut as a small business, people may think, is it a small business? Or is it generating good enough profits?

Here are some reasons and calculations to solve your confusion.

It’s a one of the most consumable goods in srilanka. Mostly everyone would like to drink it for their thirst and it is good natural tasty fresh drink. When the sun burns hot, people get tired even if they walk for ten minute. So, when they see a kingcoconut shop they will think of drinking it. So, its no wonder as the road he seel kingcocunut in road and when lots of people passes by his shop atleast 1/10 of people prefer drinking king coconut.

The success of this small business [king coconut]lies on identifying a correct place and open a small shop. The place he select should be mostly used by people for their day to day works.

Revenues and profits calculations:

The person who sell king coconut can sell minimum of 50 [and maximum depend on his skill] per day in Colombo area. If they can sell each at Rs.30, and if he purchase it for an Rs.15 his profits is purely 50%. For a day he can earn a profit of Rs.750. If he works for 25 days, his total profit will be 18750. But these profits will not remain same. There will be ups and downs in the sales.

His total profit would go up by 2nd or 3rd month and he may earn Rs.30000-35000 for month. It depends on his communicational skills and the socialisation skill.

In accordance to Sri Lankan labour market, an assistant accountant’s monthly salary is about Rs.20,000 – 25,000. So doing an own small business will be better than working under anybody.

2] Lottery tickets


In Srilanka lottery tickets are the mostly purchaseable thing in the public.

But as per my concern the people who buy lottery tickets are foolish and don’t have self-confident on them. They rely on thier luck and buy the ticket with the dream that they will win one day.

But I am bit happy, because it make some business opportunity to some entrepreneurs to sell the lottery ticket.

Their revenues are depend on the number of lottery tickets they sells, but these business opportunity makes a quite enough profit to make their business success.

Be your own brand

A ‘brand name’ is a unique sign which demonstrate the value of what it is. Most of us are aware that the brand names are commonly used for the products and services.

This is quite a new concept as I think.

Each and every person has some kind of personalities, which demonstrate their own branding to others.

Such as

1. Uniqueness

Each personality has some uniqueness. This uniqueness may be known by them or not, this uniqueness will be expressed in certain  situation. The respected personality should identify what is his or her uniqueness and develop it.

Ex: – concentrations, confidence, positive mentality, etc…

2. Identity / Differentiations

The differentiation means everybody’s personality difer from each others. The differentiation get developed by comparing people and to compare                                                                                       the respected person to make his or her self better than others.

3. Charismatic

The personality should be a charismatic on their selves. The charismatic skills will show you as different personnel from others. This will make yourself attractive as others like to follow you as a leader [role model]. This is one of the best branding for your own. Which you can develop on your own.

4. Leadership

The leadership skills make difference between the personalities. The leaders always have some sort of specializations. This makes them to be unique and differ them from others. This makes them as a brand of their personalities.

Ex: – Che Guevera, Fidel Castro, Abdul Kalam and so on…

5. Interpersonal skills

The interpersonal skills also make the personalities to be differ from others. The personality behaviors demonstrate their brand on their selves. People who have a good leadership skills and good communication skills are good examples interpersonal skills. They are branding them by their interpersonal skills.

Ex:- communication skills, presentation skills, negotiations skill, etc…

6. Communication skills and Presentation skill

These are the skills which make the person to be different from others. In some cases this make the differentiation and make the brand better as well.

There are so many personalities who do their motivational speech by only depending on their presentation skills. This make them to be different from others.

7. Accuracy

The knowledge accuracy is also making a personality to become a branded. These make the person to well organize and to preplann. In the working places most of these skills help the staffs [who work in private companies] to be brand them selves. Specially knowing all related news and current updates make them as a brand knowledge personality.

Ex: – Updated information on hand, availability of data, etc…

8. Understandability

The understandability makes a person to be unique. The way they understand the matters quickly is a brand to the personality. Which can be a bright case in their life as well.

Ex: – understanding the situations, understand the mentality of others, grasp the points quickly and easily understand the complex data.

9. Adoptable and willingness to change

The person who like to adopt new changes and to update theirself  make them branded. The willingness to change also considered as a branded. These people may be early adapters of the markets.

Ex: – adopt new technology, adopt and understand new concepts, willingness to change process to upgrade, etc…

10. Willingness to learn

This is the important skill to a person who wants to be branded. The branded person is willing to learn everything at any time. This makes them to be more branded. This is an important skill to be a branded person.

11. Creativity and Self thinking

The new creativity will make the personality to be branded his or her self. The person who willing to create a new innovation always have a good demand in the markets. The branded personality is depend on how they use their creativity and innovation skills.

In overall branding the personality depends on the person who tries their personality development. The branding can be a positive and negative as well. So the selection to be a branding in positive or negative will depend on how and what are the activities are carried out by the personalities.

FACTORS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE NEW ENTREPRENEUR

Every one in the world want to be the boss of their own business. This may be their passion or their ambition. While they going to reach their objective they may face some visible and invisible disturbances. The success of their business relies on, how they overcome those problems with their limited resources and unlimited experience.

Most of the successful business men or women have some sort of painful stories. But they wont think of those pains for their life time.

Here are some points which are important to the new Entrepreneurs to start their own business.

  • POLICY OF BUSINESS

Each and every person have some kind of policy. Their policy may be their strength or the weakness. The success of the entrepreneur  relies when he adopt policies according to the business environment.

The different between successful and unsuccessful business is, how they adopt their business policies and how they implement it.

  • DO THE BUSINESS YOU KNOW VERY WELL

Who ever want to start a business should think of doing business on their known field. Because this will help the person to use the knowledge he gained to use it in his business.

The success of the business is fully depending on the risk taking ability of the entrepreneur. The risk and the return are the positive correlative factor. If the entrepreneur is risk taker then the return will be attractive too. At the same time there will be good chances to getting negative returns as well.

But risk taking is also a kind of art. The successful entrepreneur is who taking high or lower risk according to their expectations and their experience.

  • THE PERSONAL INVOLVEMENT

The personal involvement means, where entrepreneur enter into a business personally. The uniqueness of his ideas will make him to be  in front  in the market. Therefore its better that new entrepreneurs discover unique ideas and follow up.

  • EARLY ADOPTION AND EARLY REACTION

The early adoption and early reaction to the business environment is much necessary to the entrepreneur to achieve success. Because the market change  depend on the consumers need and their wants. So the successful entrepreneur follow the market and change rapidly according to their changes.

  • LOCATION

The location is a critical success factor in a business. The success of the restraints and hotels are good example for the locations for the businesses.

  • CREDIT POLICY

The credit policy of the entrepreneurs is an important factor to the business. The risk and the returns mainly depend on their credit policy. The credit policy help the entrepreneur to decide how much risk he is going to take.

These are specially designed for the entrepreneur to decide of the banks loan.

But its all depend on the entrepreneur’s risk taking abilities.

  • MAINTAIN PROPER ACCOUNTING AND MANAGEMENT STYLE

To maintain a proper accounts and the management style it is necessary for the entrepreneur to maintain a good cooperate culture. This will help the entrepreneur to grow up the proper management and cooperate cultural discipline for his future survivals.

  • AVOIDING ILLEGAL TRANSACTION

The entrepreneur should not engaged with illegal activities such as black market and the control price manipulations. These can be considered as a black mark ion the enterpreneur for his future development.

Maintaining a good relationship between the tax authority and the local councils is also necessary to the entrepreneur to succeed his business.

  • BANK RELATIONSHIP

The entrepreneur should have a good relationship between banks and the other financial institutions to get the necessary financial supports when he needs.

Especially banks are providing advice to entrepreneurs on how to run small businesses and how to maintain the market shares. For some purposes the bank loans are good to be taken to get valuable advice from the expertise panels.

  • ADVERTISMENT

The advertisement boost the business. This has become an important factor to decide or to maintain market shares. Some companies spend heavily on the advertisement to introduce their new products and to grow their market.

  • CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

This is the first and the last factor which is a dominant factor to decide whether the business is success or not. The customers should be treated  as kings and their requirement should be fulfilled according to their wish accordance to the company mission and visions.

All the above factors will help the entrepreneur to satisfy the customer need and understand their requirements only. If not the survival will be questionable.

Start Your Own Business

Hey guys, why don’t you think of start a business on your own. In this young age, why you spend your time for others, they get benefits from you, by your hardwork. Do you ever think that your employer pay you 50000 rupees without getting anything from you. Please think that your hard work will be most valuable than the price the employer gives to you. Be aware, that your hardwork is valued 5 times of your salary.

I do not recommend you to leave your current job. Of course you need money to start a business. But don’t think you need huge amount to start a business. A person can start a business even with Rs.500  and it could become Rs. 500 billion. In some cases it happens like people invest Rs.500 billion and business end up in road with loss of money. Therefore don’t think that you should have lots of money to initiate a business.

அப்துல் கலாமும் இந்திய இளைஞர்களும்

இவ்வுலகத்தில் இந்தியா ஒரு விசித்திரமான நாடு. இது பல மூடர்களை ஈன்றாலும் சில அறிவாற்றலின் மேதைகளும் அங்கே பிறந்தார்கள்.

இந்தியாவுக்கும் பாகிஸ்தானுக்கும் சண்டை மூண்டால், அதை விளையாட்டாக  எடுப்பதுவும், அதுவே கிரிக்கெட் போட்டி என்றால் அதை ஆக்ரோஷமாக சண்டையாக எடுப்பதுவும்  இந்தியர்களுக்கு கை வந்த கலை.

அப்துல் கலாமின் சுயசரிதையில் (அக்கினிச் சிறகுகள்) அவர் தான் பட்ட கஷ்டங்களையும் தன் மதத்தின்(இஸ்லாம்) மீதான சிறந்த நம்பிக்கையையும் வெளிப்படுத்தினார். அதில் அவர் வெளிப்படையாக தன் மதத்துக்கும் விண்வெளி ஆராய்ச்சிக்கும் இருந்த வேறுபாட்டினையும் தனது நிலைமைகளையும் வெளிப்படுத்தினார். ஒரு சிறந்த ஒழுக்கப் பற்றுள்ள முஸ்ஸிம் குடும்பத்தில் இருந்து வந்த தன்னால் முதலில் இரண்டையும் ஒன்றாய் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள முடியவில்லை எனவும் பின்னாளில் தன்னால் இரண்டையும் உணர முடிந்ததாகவும் கூறினார்.

இந்திய அணு ஆராய்ச்சியில் வெற்றியும், இந்தியாவிலேயே இருந்து “இந்தியா வல்லரசு ஆகும்” எனச் சொன்ன ஒரே ஒரு மனிதர் அப்துல் கலாம் மட்டுமே. இதனாலேயே பின்னாளில் இளைஞர்களின் மனதையும் வெல்ல முடிந்தது.

ஒட்டு மொத்த இந்திய சமுதாயத்தின் ஆதரவே அவரை இந்திய குடியரசுத் தலைவராக மாற்றியது . இவ்வாதரவு அவரின் அறிவாற்றலுக்கும் திறமைக்கும் கிடைத்த ஓர்  வெகுமதியே.
