Wildlife Photographic Competition for 65th Anniversary of the Department of Wildlife Conservation

Department of Wildlife Conservation organised an wildlife photographic competition Held to mark the 65th Anniversary of the Department of Wildlife Conservation this Wildlife Photographic Competition Open Section and School Section.

A decision has been taken to hold wildlife photographic competition to mark the 65th Anniversary of the Department of Wildlife Conservation.

Any Sri Lankan and school children can participate at this competition and submit only 04 wildlife photos containing natural wildlife splendour and activities either in black & white or colour.

All photos should have been taken in National Parks, sanctuaries or wildlife protected areas in Sri Lanka and should not be digitally altered. If necessary, either the negative or a scanned image CD should be submitted along with the photos.

The length of photo should be between 12″ and 18″ while the width should be between 8″ and 12”. Photos should not be submitted either in mounted positions. The reverse top left corner of the photo should be marked the applicants name as given in the application, address title and serial number. A short description on the wildlife locations, the camera and the lenses, should be submitted.

The ownership of all the photos should be of the applicant and should not have been submitted to any other photographic competition earlier. The department will use the selected photos for media and Publicity Purposes.

All photographs should either be sent by post or personally delivered to the Director General, Department of Wildlife Conservation. The top left corner of the cover containing the photographs should be marked “Wildlife Photographic Competition 2014” Entries received after the relevant date will not be accepted and the Department shall not be responsible for any damages caused in the mail.

This is an open and non fee levying competition and any officer or member of his family, serving in institutes functioning under the Ministry of Wildlife recourse conservation No. 811/A, Jayanthipura, Battaramulla is not permitted to participate in this competition.

The Competition will be evaluated under a formal panel of judges to select winner and the decision of the panel of judges will be the final. Prizes and certificates will also be awarded to first, second and third place winners while 10 merit certificates will also be awarded. Official results will be notified to winners by post.

Photography competition for schoolchildren – Submit on or before September 15, 2014

Schools, especially school media societies islandwide, are invited to apply for a photography competition and exhibition organized by the Ministry of Education.

A circular in this regard has been sent by Education Ministry Secretary Anura Dissanayake to all Provincial Education Secretaries, Provincial Education Directors, Zonal Education Directors and school Principals.

According to the Education Ministry, the photography competition will be conducted according to standards set by the Photographic Society of Sri Lanka, with government and government approved private school students being eligible to apply for the competition.

The theme of the competition is “Our World As I See It”, and will fall under two categories, members of a school media society and non-members. The two age groups are below 16 years and below 21 years. Applicants should be below the age stipulated when submitting the application. A contestant can submit a maximum of four photographs.

All photographs should be digital and in jpeg/srgp modes, and should be submitted in CD or a DVD. Software such as photoshop is prohibited, while watermarks or signatures are not permitted.

Application forms and further photo requirements are stated in the Education Ministry’s website or, contact the Director of Co-curricular Activities, Guidance and Counseling & Peace Education branch of the Education Ministry.

Students are requested to submit genuine photographs, as copying from the internet or any other source will be disqualified.

Closing date for applications is September 15, 2014. Winners will be awarded medals and certificates along with consolation prizes. A special certificate will be awarded for the best monochrome photograph.

“The purpose of this competition is to promote photography as a hobby among schoolchildren. This also enhances creativity among students and to choose a career as professional photographers,” Mr. Dissanayake said.

University of Moratuwa Photography Competition 2013

Engineering Faculty Student Union organised a Photography Competition 2013 on 3rd to 5th December 2013 at University of Moratuwa.

Applications are calls on following category and the Photographs should submitted on or before 20th November 2013.

School, University and Open and very attractive prizes are ahead.

Terms & Conditions

  1. Contestants are free to make their entries on any topic but should be within the perimeter of the country capturing the heritage and beauty of Sri Lanka. Animals in captivity cannot be included.
  2. According to the age level the contestants can compete under the following categories. (Open category, School category and University category)
  3. Photographs already exhibited in any exhibition are not allowed.
  4. The photographs should be unframed and not mounted, having an effective area not less than 10”x12”
  5. Every photograph should have the photographer’s name, address, photo number and the category at its back in removable manner. (No water marks on photo)
  6. Each entry of School applicants should be certified by the principal, saying that the photographs are their own creations.
  7. A small description about the photograph and the technical details of the photograph (used camera model, used lens, used film, the location the photograph was taken …etc.), should be given with the application.
  8. The maximum number of entries by one person for the exhibition is limited to ten (10).
  9. It should be possible to obtain the identity of the photograph if required.
  10. The organizing committee maintains the full rights to publish any of the chosen photographs to the media for non-commercial use.
  11. Photographs should be submitted, carefully packed in a suitable cover with the name, address and the number of photographs written on the cover.
  12. The photographs should be sent via post to “Pehesara 2013”, Engineering Faculty Union, Faculty of Engineering, University of Moratuwa, or delivered by hand to the Postal Unit of University of Moratuwa on a weekday during office hours.
  13. Applicants from the University of Moratuwa should submit their entries to “WUS” book shop in Sumanadasa building.
  14. The entries should be sent on or before 21st November 2013. we will not be responsible for any late submissions.
  15. The assessment of the photographs will be done by three invited judges and the decision of the judges will be the final.
  16. Certificates will be awarded for selected applicants and prizes will be granted for the first, second and third places in each category.
  17. The Exhibition will be held on 3rd, 4th,5th of December 2013 at University Of Moratuwa..
  18. For the Applicants of University of Moratuwa, the photographs should be collected from the same place where the entries were submitted, within two weeks after the completion of the Exhibition in the university. The Organizing committee will not be responsible for the unclaimed photographs after this period.
  19. For other applicants, the photographs can be collected from the same place where the entries were submitted, within two weeks after the completion of the Exhibition in the university, and the remaining photographs can be collected from University.
