NSBM Green University Town will be open in 2015

South Asia’s first Green University Town, NSBM will be open for both Sri Lankan and foreign students by the end of 2015. The university town is a great investment as the country can save a large amount of money spent by students for their foreign university degrees.

The university, being constructed in 26 acres at a cost of Rs. 10.2 billion, will have state-of-the-art lecture hall facilities, laboratories, libraries, modern auditoriums and cutting-edge tech labs, proffering the highest standards of education at its three faculties of Computing, Management and Engineering. It will house 30,000 local and foreign undergraduates.

The university complex will also have hostels, free study areas, cinemas, walking and lounge areas, swimming pools, modern gymnasiums and a business unit. The contractor of the project is Maga Engineering Ltd, while Engineering Consultants (Pvt) Ltd consultancy services. The Bank of Ceylon extends financial facilities

Extra Classes for Students who face G.C.E (O/L) examinations in 2014

Principles of Western Province schools have been unstructured to take steps to ensure their students to obtain better results in the G.C.E (O/L) Examination. It has been projection that North Western, Uva and Sabaragamuwa may have better results than a western province.

The Western Province Acting Education Director Wimal Gunaratne, said schools had been told to have additional classes of two and half hours for O/L students from 6.30 to 7.30 in the morning and from 1.30 pm to 3.00 pm. The authority has meet principles to discuss ways of improving performance while the schools would have to submit reports of anticipated results.

And principals instructed to take steps to ensure no child skips classes (without valid reasons) and other children are not allowed to walk past O/L classes

~ NEWS~

My Opinion

Students could full concentrate on their subject only on 40 to 45 Minutes for an subject, and this extension of school time from 6.30 to 7.30 in the morning and from 1.30 pm to 3.00 pm; will lead to students to be at school from 6.30 Am to 3.00 Pm.

It would impact to students mentally, it may harm to the result in overall, and the Education Ministry has to taken steps to benchmark the overseas educational systems and need to adopt the possible option to improve the student result in their G.C.E (O/L) Examination.

The extensions of school hours will be frustration to students rather obtain a best result.

Tourist Guide Lecturers as interpreters for foreign investors in Sri Lanka

A one day workshop for Professional Tourist Guide Lecturers and other related professionals will be held on June 21 from 8.30 am to 6.00 pm at the main Library of the University of Colombo.

The first ever training course relevant to this field in Sri Lanka, the workshop is organized by the Department of Economics of the University of Colombo and the Russian Tourist Guide Lecturers’ Association. Many tourists visiting Sri Lanka are on the lookout for investment opportunities in the country. Such tourists are also a major and reliable source that could provide details of investment opportunities available in Sri Lanka to their home countries. To inform professional tourist guides largely engaged with tourists regarding investment and business opportunities in the country, would in turn help attract foreign investments to the country. As such, the main objective is to inform them in this regard

Participants’ knowledge on investment opportunities in Sri Lanka, government incentives and policy consultation for foreign investments, positive thinking, leadership skills and communication skills are expected to be improved. As they would be educated in healthcare, health safety, sustainable and environmental standards, their practical knowledge in preparing project reports would also be improved.

Promotion Officers of the Sri Lanka Investments Board, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority officials and University Lecturers too would engage as resource persons of the workshop. A valuable certificate for participants who successfully complete the one-day program would be issued by the Department of Economics of the University of Colombo.

Those interested in this regard, may obtain further details by calling Asanka Senanayake on 0718716755 and the Chairman of the Russian Tourist Guide Lecturers’ Association on 011258266 or 0716060995.
