NHDA’s World Habitat Day Art & Essay competition for schoolchildren

The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) invites schoolchildren islandwide to participate in an Art and Essay competition launched to mark World Habitat Day, which falls on October 6, 2014.

It is a special day for nature lovers. Under the themes of, ‘Environment protects us’, ‘Revamping settlements’ and ‘Settlements-environment and our future will be brighter’; students can submit their entries an artwork or an essay. Applicants could also select one or more of the themes.

Artworks should be 17” x 22” in size, and any colours such as pastels, water colours or pencils can be used, while for the Essay competition, entries can be sent in Sinhala, Tamil or English. Entries from students from Grades 6 to 9 should not exceed 300 words, while those from Grades 10 to 13 should submit essays not exceeding 500 words.

The winner will receive Rs 10,000 along with an award and a certificate, the 1st Runner- up will receive Rs 7,500, an award and a certificate, and the 2nd Runner- up Rs 5,000, with an award and certificate. Five consolation prizes of Rs 2,000 each is also on offer.

Applications for the competitions can be obtained from NHDA District Offices island wide. All entries should be certified by the Principal of the relevant school and addressed to: The Deputy General Manager (Information & Publicity), National Housing Development Authority, 7th Floor, Sir Chittampalam A.
