Department of Wildlife Conservation organised an wildlife photographic competition Held to mark the 65th Anniversary of the Department of Wildlife Conservation this Wildlife Photographic Competition Open Section and School Section.
A decision has been taken to hold wildlife photographic competition to mark the 65th Anniversary of the Department of Wildlife Conservation.
Any Sri Lankan and school children can participate at this competition and submit only 04 wildlife photos containing natural wildlife splendour and activities either in black & white or colour.
All photos should have been taken in National Parks, sanctuaries or wildlife protected areas in Sri Lanka and should not be digitally altered. If necessary, either the negative or a scanned image CD should be submitted along with the photos.
The length of photo should be between 12″ and 18″ while the width should be between 8″ and 12”. Photos should not be submitted either in mounted positions. The reverse top left corner of the photo should be marked the applicants name as given in the application, address title and serial number. A short description on the wildlife locations, the camera and the lenses, should be submitted.
The ownership of all the photos should be of the applicant and should not have been submitted to any other photographic competition earlier. The department will use the selected photos for media and Publicity Purposes.
All photographs should either be sent by post or personally delivered to the Director General, Department of Wildlife Conservation. The top left corner of the cover containing the photographs should be marked “Wildlife Photographic Competition 2014” Entries received after the relevant date will not be accepted and the Department shall not be responsible for any damages caused in the mail.
This is an open and non fee levying competition and any officer or member of his family, serving in institutes functioning under the Ministry of Wildlife recourse conservation No. 811/A, Jayanthipura, Battaramulla is not permitted to participate in this competition.
The Competition will be evaluated under a formal panel of judges to select winner and the decision of the panel of judges will be the final. Prizes and certificates will also be awarded to first, second and third place winners while 10 merit certificates will also be awarded. Official results will be notified to winners by post.

Wildlife Photographic Competition for 65th Anniversary of the Department of Wildlife Conservation
The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) invites schoolchildren islandwide to participate in an Art and Essay competition launched to mark World Habitat Day, which falls on October 6, 2014.
It is a special day for nature lovers. Under the themes of, ‘Environment protects us’, ‘Revamping settlements’ and ‘Settlements-environment and our future will be brighter’; students can submit their entries an artwork or an essay. Applicants could also select one or more of the themes.
Artworks should be 17” x 22” in size, and any colours such as pastels, water colours or pencils can be used, while for the Essay competition, entries can be sent in Sinhala, Tamil or English. Entries from students from Grades 6 to 9 should not exceed 300 words, while those from Grades 10 to 13 should submit essays not exceeding 500 words.
The winner will receive Rs 10,000 along with an award and a certificate, the 1st Runner- up will receive Rs 7,500, an award and a certificate, and the 2nd Runner- up Rs 5,000, with an award and certificate. Five consolation prizes of Rs 2,000 each is also on offer.
Applications for the competitions can be obtained from NHDA District Offices island wide. The first stage will be the paper based designs, where all design submissions in each respective category will be submitted as sketches. Designs that are chosen from stage one will then be manufactured and presented for stage two.

Extra trains will ho deployed for the convenience of Poson pilgrims expected in Anuradhapura from June 10 to 14, Railway Transport Superintendent said.
The trains leaving Colombo Fort will ply via Maho to reach Anuradhapura.
The first train will operate on June 10 from Colombo at midnight, Maho 4.57 a.m. to reach Anuradhapura at 6.25 a.m.
Seven trains will operate from Colombo to Anuradhapura on June 11.
The first of these trains will leave Colombo at 3.45 a.m. arrive at Maho at 7.25 a.m. to reach Anuradhapura at 9.03 a.m.
The second train will leave Colombo at 9 a.m.. Maho 12.25 a.m. to reach Anuradhapura at 2 p.m. The next train to leave Colombo will be at 11 a.m., Maho 2.15 p.m. to reach Anuradhapura at 4.03 p.m.
