The National Museum Department is developing a plan to establish a new museum in Hambantota next year.

The Proposed Museum will be named as Hambantota Uruma. The Conservation programmes of the 2 old building in the Kachcheri premises will commence in July 2012. The Treasury has allocated Rs.18 Million for the task.

The Hambantota Uruma Museum will exhibits of Historical Items related to art, Religion and Politics.
