Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa opened South Asia’s first underwater tunnel aquarium at Water World, Biyagama, Sri Lanka. The water world is built on a 47 feet long concrete platform at a cost of Rs. 60 million. This tunnel is 30 feet long and 37 feet wide.
Singapore and Taiwan were supplies equipment for builds the Water World in Sri Lanka. The construction was taken 13 months from its commencement.
Fish exhibited in this aquarium was obtained from Dehiwala, Negombo, Galle, Matara, Trincomalee and Batticaloa and the tunnel holds over 200,000 litres of sea water and is home to over 500 fish of many varieties.
The Water World – Under Water tunnel Aquarium would be a attractions to Srilanka tourism and development in future, specially it would welcome budget travellers to srilanka to enjoy their holidays at affordable cost.
