Bachelor of Education (Natural Sciences) Degree Programme
Registration of Students for Level 3
Applications are called for the Bachelor of Education (Natural Sciences) Degree Programme jointly conducted by the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
B.Ed (Nat.Sc) Programme is a four academic year programme especially planned for Science /Mathematics teachers or prospective teachers. The Faculty of Natural Sciences conducts levels 3 and 4 (Science Courses) and the Faculty of Education conducts the levels 5 and 6 (Education Courses) of the programme.
Eligibility for Admission to the Programme
- Obtained a minimum of 3 passes at any number of sittings at the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination in three Science subjects, or,
- obtained a minimum of 54 credits at Levels 1 and 2 from among the Foundation Courses in Science offered by the Faculty of Natural Sciences, acceptable for the selection of three disciplines at Level 3, or,
- Secured an equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Open University.
Exemptions from Level 5
Teachers who have successfully followed the 3 year Teacher Education programme of a National College of Education and hold the Diploma in Teaching Science/Mathematics would be exempted from Level 5 of B.Ed Programme
Application forms and Particulars
Application forms will be available from 12th August to 14th September 2013 on a Cash payment of Rs. 500/=.
Applications can be obtained as indicated below.
From the Public Relations Office, Open University, Nawala between 9.00 a.m- 3.00 p.m on any day of week excluding Public Holidays.
From the Regional Centers at Kandy (Polgolla),Matara (Nupe),Jaffna, Anuradhapura and Batticaloa between 9.00a.m. to 3.00p.m. except Sunday, Monday and Public Holidays
Completed application forms should be posted together with the postcard provided, to Asst. Director/ Regional Officer, the Regional Center, where you have obtained the application, to be received on or before 18.09.2013.
STAND-ALONE COURSES IN SCIENCE
The Faculty of Natural Sciences is offering courses in Botany, Chemistry, Health Sciences, Physics, Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Zoology for those who wish to obtain knowledge in a specific area without registering for a complete programme of study. Most of these courses are those offered as part of the B.Sc. Degree and Foundation Certificate in Science Programmes.
CREDIT CERTIFICATES WILL BE AWARDED TO SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS. Registration will take place on 15th October 2013 and the courses will commence In January 2014. Relevant examinations will be held in May/June 2014 for certain courses and in November/December 2014 for the rest. You could contact relevant Heads of Departments (phone 2853777) for further details and information.
Academic activities will be conducted mainly at the Colombo, Kandy and Matara Regional Centres. Limited activities will also be conducted at Anuradhapura, Batticaloa and Jaffna Regional Centres.
Application Forms and Particulars
All information regarding the courses offered and application forms could be obtained from 13th August to 13th September 2013 on a Cash payment of Rs. 350/=.
The completed application form and the self-addressed post card should be posted to reach the Assistant Director or Regional Officer or Coordinator of the Regional Centre or Study Centre from which you obtained the application on or before 18th September 2013.
All applicants have to attend a compulsory orientation session on 15th October 2013 from 9.00 am. to 12.00 noon at the Board Room of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Colombo Regional Centre, Open University, Nawala, Nugegoda.
