The Gampaha District Agricultural directors’ office has commenced a 30 acres Durian Village programme in Mabodala in the Minuwangoda divisional secretariat area. This programme was launched under an island wide fruit village creating programme by the Gampaha, said District Agricultural Director Nelson de Silva.
Thirty farmers were trained under this programme and given 150 Durian plants. Another 450 plants were distributed among farmers as a part of the second stage of the programme. Assistant Director General (Technical) Agricultural Department and other officers participated at the occasion.
The distributed plants were processed under high quality standard in the planting centres of the Agricultural Department. Durian is a highly demanded fruit in the local market.
