The Whole Southern coastal lines from Colombo to Matara have been reconstructed to allow High Speed (Express) Train will be relaunched on 19^th April 2012.

The reconstructed rail way line will be allowed to run a train at a Speed of 100 Kilometers per Hour. The express railway will save time of 1 Hour and 40 Minutes than a Current Railway service to Colombo Matara. The New Express Trains will expect to ride from Colombo to Matara in 2 Hours time.

The Colombo-Galle- Matara Express Railway line is developed with the Indian Government supports of USD 168 Million, with the support of Indian Railway Construction Company Limited (IRCON).
