The European Union apportioned Rs. 1,700 million for the development of Batticaloa under the guidance of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa. A meeting, presided by Batticaloa Government Agent P. S. M. Charles, was held to discuss how the funds can be used to develop Batticaloa.
The meeting was held at Batticaloa Government Agent’s office. Economic Development Deputy Minister M. L. A. M. Hizbullah said the implementing committee will be formed in the 14 secretarial divisions of the Batticaloa District. Deputy Minister said similar to the project successfully completed in the Ampara district, the amount will be used to develop education, health, technical education, Solid waste management, environmental development and fisheries in the Batticaloa district.
UNOPS Program Manager Celia Marquez, Batticaloa District Planning Director R. Neduncheliyan, Batticaloa Municipal Council Engineer P. Achchuthan and others participated.
